Our highly skilled Allied Health Team work alongside other health professionals, including doctors and nurses, to support your health and wellbeing needs. The will assist you to prevent, manage or treat your chronic (long term) health conditions, dietary and nutrition needs, and/or rehabilitation. We can work 1on1 with you or there are group programs available.

Our services are confidential and respectful of your needs, circumstances and culture.

We can provide Allied Health Services in variety of ways, including via Bulk Billing (Team Care Arrangement or GP Management Plan). Click here to visit our fees page for more information.

Audiology Service (9mths-18yrs)

Nexus in partnership with the University of Melbourne now offers an Audiology Service at our GP SuperClinic in Wallan. Our Audiology Service provides a comprehensive range of hearing assessments for infants, toddlers and children.

This service can determine your child’s access to the important sounds required for development of communication. If a hearing impairment is diagnosed (either temporary or permanent), appropriate management advice is provided.

What to expect during your appointment:
· Each appointment will take 35 minutes to complete.
· Assessments are undertaken in a purpose built sound proof booth.
· At the conclusion of the appointment you will receive a report to summarise your child’s results.

You can contact us on 1300 77 33 52 for an appointment - no referral required.
Audiology Assessments are bulk billed which means you will need a current medicare card. There is a $30 report fee payable to Nexus on the day.

Autism Diagnostic Assessments

Nexus Primary Health can provide multi-disciplinary Autism Diagnostic Assessments for children as part of the Helping Children with Autism Initiative. Our service is confidential and respectful of your needs, circumstances and culture.

A multi-disciplinary Autism Diagnostic Assessment provides detailed information to assist with the formal diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder. Each assessment is conducted by a Psychologist and Speech Pathologist, as recommended by Autism Victoria.

The Autism Diagnostic Assessment package includes:
- 1 x 50 minute consultations with a Psychologist,
- 2 x 50 minute consultations with a Speech Pathologist,
- Completion of standardised assessment tools,
- Comprehensive written reports provided to the referring Paediatrician/Psychiatrist or specialist.

This service requires a referral from a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist. Dr Jonathan Ajzner, Nexus Bulk Billing Paediatrician is available at the Nexus GP SuperClinic in Wallan on Wednesdays. Consultations with the Psychologist and Speech Pathologist/Occupational Therapist will be bulk billed – therefore there is no out of pocket expense to you. A $250 report fee – for assessment tools and reports - will be billed at the initial appointment.

Diabetes Education

There may be times when you need some extra advice, have questions or have problems you can’t manage on your own in relation to managing or preventing Diabetes.

One on one diabetes education is tailored to meet your individual needs which may include:
- Education for all aspects of your diabetes care.
- Assistance with blood glucose monitoring.
- Support with insulin commencement and day to day or ongoing management.
- Assistance with lifestyle changes for improved diabetes control.

Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology uses exercise interventions to assist you to prevent injury and manage medical conditions such as diabetes, heart or lung diseases and muscle and bone conditions.

Working with an Exercise Physiologist can assist you with:
- Health and physical activity education.
- Advice and support specific to your circumstances.
- Positive lifestyle changes with a strong focus on your needs.
- Individualised programs tailored for your needs; home or centre based appointments available.
- Group classes and programs to benefit your health and wellbeing.

- Falls prevention and balance group.
- Strength training group.
- Gentle exercise group.
- Hydrotherapy (warm-water exercise) group.

Nutrition and Dietetics

Dietetics helps you understand the relationship between food and health and make dietary choices to attain and maintain good health. Dietetics provides information and support to help you improve your health and take into account your individual needs and tailor advice accordingly.

This service provides general nutrition and dietary information to assist you with the following:
- Diabetes and the prevention of diabetes.
- Heart disease including high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
- Overweight, underweight and unintentional loss of weight.
- Nutrition support for cancer or surgery.
- Digestive health constipation, diarrhoea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Coeliac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis.
- Vegetarian and/or specific dietary needs.
- Vitamin and mineral deficiencies, including anaemia.
- Fussy eating in children.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy promotes health and wellbeing by better enabling you to participate in everyday activities. Our service works with you to adapt your environment to enable your safe and independent engagement in activities in your home, school and community environments.
Our service can assist with rehabilitation, aged care and people with a disability through an initial assessment in your home that will:
- Determine environmental barriers that are impacting on your safety and independence in your home.
- Assess and analyse your current occupational performance, providing you with practical strategies to improve your safety and independent engagement in personal, domestic and community activities of daily living.
- Prescribe equipment and recommend home modifications to maximise your safety and independence in your home.
Our team can also work with children aged 0-12 years experiencing difficulty with:
- Behaviour and social skills.
- Motor and coordination skills.
- Toileting.
- Sensory concerns or developmental delays.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy promotes better movement and physical function by working with you to improve your muscle and bone health. Physiotherapy can help you recover from injury, reduce pain or stiffness, and increase mobility.

- Arthritis.
- Back, neck and shoulder pain.
- Post fractures or surgery.
- Falls and balance problems.

Podiatry

Podiatry provides advice, treatment and prevention for feet and lower limb conditions which may affect your movement and comfort.

Commonly seen conditions include:
- Nail and skin disorders.
- Problems causing foot pain and discomfort.
- Complications from Chronic Diseases such as Diabetes and Arthritis.
- Orthotic prescription (orthotics at additional cost).
- General foot wear advice.

Speech Pathology

Speech Pathology assists children (0-18years), adults, older or frail aged adults and people with a disability who have communication or swallowing difficulties.

Communication is essential for our wellbeing as it keeps us connected to others. Methods of communication may include the following:

- reading and writing
- body language

Swallowing problems may include:
- trouble chewing
- coughing when eating or drinking
- food getting stuck in the throat when eating
