District Nursing

District Nurses will work with you and your loved ones to live or die well. We respect your health choices and preferences. Your voice is very important to us. We will support you to live at home with as much or as little help that you want.

Our role is to help you:

  • Stay well
  • Make less trips to the doctor or hospital
  • Manage your symptoms
  • Stop further injury
Anyone can use the District Nursing Service when they need medical and nursing care. This can include:
  • Medication, including needles
  • Chemotherapy. This is also called Chemo
  • Checking your temperature or blood pressure
  • Help you avoid infections from your catheter
  • Help your wounds heal
  • Feeding through a tube
  • Care for your baby or child
  • Kidney dialysis
  • Help you to die peacefully at home
  • Help you get the equipment you need
  • Assess whether compression stockings would help you
  • Education
  • Preventing injuries
  • Stoma care
  • Managing your pain
  • Tracheostomy care and oxygen
  • Listen to you concerns
  • Answer your questions
  • Help you find other health professionals and support
