Speech Pathology - Adult

Our Speech Pathologists help people with communication and swallowing problems. We help people be independent and, be a part of the community. We help people stay connected to others by helping them to communicate.

You can use our service if you are a part of:

  • My Aged Care
  • Home Care Packages
  • Home and Community Care - Program for Younger Persons
  • NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme)
  • or are self-funded.

There are many reasons that people might have communication problems. This might include:

  • Stroke
  • Degenerative neurological disorders
  • Brain injury
  • Surgery
  • Cancer
  • Dementia
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Down's Syndrome
You may have problems swallowing. This might give you problems like:
  • Coughing
  • Taking a long time to eat
  • Taking a long time to drink
  • Finding it hard to chew
  • Feeling like food gets stuck in your throat
  • Chest infections
  • Weight loss
We can help you with your communication. We can help give you ideas for eating more easily and safely.

What to expect

We can see you at home or in the Nexus Office. We can do home visits if you live in:
  • Mitchell Shire
  • Murrindindi Shire
  • Southern part of Strathbogie Shire
We will assess you.  We can write a Care Plan based around your needs.

We will give you therapy to help you get to your goals.

We will give you information to help you.

We can refer you to other services, if you need more help.

Referral Process

You can call us on 1300 77 33 52 to talk about a referral. You can also email us at Intake@nexusprimaryhealth.org.au

You need to contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or go to www.myagedcare.gov.au if you are:
  • Over 65 years old
  • Or over 50 years old and are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
