Volunteers are an important part of the Nexus team. People with a range of different skills and experience can volunteer with us. Volunteering is a way that you can contribute to your community and grow your skills, experience and knowledge.

There are a range of opportunities with our volunteer program, including:

  • Meals on Wheels: Volunteers help deliver meals to people in the community who may have difficulty making meals themselves. Meals on Wheels volunteers are based in Alexandra, Eildon, Yea, Kilmore, Broadford, Seymour and Nagambie.
  • Individual Social Support: Volunteers will help older people, who live alone, to connect with others and be involved in the community. It gives the volunteer the chance to become friends with an older person. By spending a few hours a week with another person can help them feel less lonely.
  • Local Transport Service: This program will link a volunteer to an older person who cannot drive. The volunteer will help them to attend appointments in their local area. This helps older people live more independently within their community.
  • Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS): Our Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme aims to combat social isolation among older Australians and provide them with the support they deserve. Our volunteers will visit and spend quality time with seniors in aged care homes or home care settings. For more details about ACVVS, click here for our flyer.

We receive funding from the Australian Government to run the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme in our community.

At Nexus we will protect children and vulnerable people. All of our volunteers, before commencing their volunteering service, need to have a:
  • Valid Police Check;
  • Working with Children's Check;
  • NDIS Check; and
  • Confirmation of COVID-19 vaccination status.
Our Volunteer Support Team at Nexus Primary Health can assist you to collect these documents, if required.
