#LetsTalkAboutWounds: Wound Awareness Week 2018

“Wound Awareness Week” is a nationally recognised initiative to promote the importance of talking about wounds – especially the wounds that won’t heal! Talking about wounds is important as wounds affect everyone – do you know the wound warning signs?

Nexus District Nursing encourages members of the community to talk about their wound, ask for help, and most of all join together to BE WOUND WISE. With help you will find out that wounds don’t have to be for life and with treatment your quality of life will improve.

Nexus District Nurses have the skills and knowledge to help you manage and heal your wound effectively – using the best evidence and T.I.M.E principles of wound bed preparation.

Nearly half a million Australians and roughly a third of the clients that access Nexus Medical & Nursing Services suffer from a chronic wound.  Some wounds heal with self-care measures and simple first aid – but there are occasions where they take much longer to heal.

It is important to be aware of the wound warning signs – these include:

  1. Pain and heat,
  2. Odour,
  3. Excess fluid, or
  4. Slow healing (30+ days).

These types of issues can be isolating and stop people from doing the things they love to do in their life.

If you have a wound that is not healing contact your GP or Nexus District Nurse for advice.
