There are diverse range of services within our Community Support team that are there to support you to live well and independently in your community.

Our team of skilled professionals can work with you on personal problems that may arise from matters such as financial difficulties, family violence, alcohol and/or drugs, age or disability. Our team can work with you to achieve your goals by providing information, support, advocacy, and services such as Meals On Wheels and Home Maintenance to support you living at home for longer.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs

Our ATOD service is available to adults and young people if you live, work, study or spend a
significant amount of time in Mitchell or Murrindindi Shires.

ATOD Support available at Nexus includes:
- Counselling and Recovery provides a range of services and intensive support as
required.
-Youth ATOD Worker assists young people aged 12-25 by providing a range of
appropriate services and support.
- Needle and Syringe Program provides clean needles and safe disposal at our
Broadford office.
- Non Residential Withdrawal Program provides information and support to professionals and clients considering a withdrawal from drugs or alcohol.
- Equine Assisted Learning/Therapy a program for people of all ages, and their
families, with alcohol and/or drug issues.

Disability Case Management

Disability Case Management assists people aged 16 to 65 with a disability to engage in a more independent and active community life.

Family Violence Support (women, children & men)

Nexus Family Violence Support assists you to identify and deal with the effects of family violence on yourself, your children, your relationships or your parenting. It also supports you to explore ways to increase your own safety or the safety of others including children.

Family Violence can (but is not limited to) include a range of behaviours such as:
- physical assault,- sexual assault,
- using children to manipulate,
- economic abuse, or
- spiritual abuse.

Nexus FV Support for Women: This service is for you if you are currently
experiencing family violence or you have experienced family violence in the past. If
you feel unsafe in your home, support is available, this can include:
Safety planning, Court support, Assistance with intervention orders, Housing advocacy, Links to Legal advice.

Nexus FV Support for Children:
Children can be hurt by: Physical abuse, Seeing family violence, Hearing verbal abuse, Living with tension and fear, Feeling responsible for the physical, and emotional safety of others, Learning that violence is a way of resolving problem.

Nexus FV Support for Men: This service is available if you want to stop
using violent and abusive behaviour and bring respectful ways of living and calmness
to your family. The Nexus Men’s Behaviour Change Group helps you better
manage you behaviours when angry, supporting you to make lasting changes in
life. We all get angry, but the important thing is what to do with this emotion. It is not anger
that hurts those who are closest to us, it is the behaviour.

Family Violence-TIP

The Nexus Family Violence Therapeutic Interventions Project (FV-TIP) will provide new ways of intensive therapeutic support to women, children and their families who have experienced family violence within the Mitchell & Murrindindi Shires.

Our service is confidential and respectful of your needs, circumstances and culture.

Nexus FV-TIP can provide the following therapeutic interventions:
- Allied Health: (Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy) for children with developmental delays,
- Theraplay®: a trauma-informed attachment-based therapy for children and women,
- Nexus Horses Assisting You (HAY): Equine Therapy Program for children and women.

Accessing this service:
- You can contact us directly for an appointment on 1300 77 33 52 - no referral required.
- There is no cost for this service.

Financial Counselling

Nexus Financial Counsellors provide information, support and advocacy to assist people who are having difficulty with their finances.

From time to time, many people find themselves struggling to buy food, pay the rent or mortgage and can be juggling numerous debts. If you’re in this situation we can help you understand your options so that you can get back on your feet.

Nexus Financial Counsellors will assist and support you to:
- Understand your options and their consequences, including debt recovery procedures, bankruptcy or other alternatives,
- Negotiate repayments with your creditors by advocating for you,
- Determine your eligibility for government assistance,
- Apply for hardship,
- Understand key information about consumer disputes and complaints,
- Connect with other services as required.

- Appointments are available at any Nexus Location or in Yea and Alexandra.
- Financial Counselling is free, independent and confidential.

Gambler's Help Financial Counselling

Nexus Gambler’s Help Financial Counselling is a free and confidential service. Our Gambler’s Help Financial Counsellors are trained and experienced to help you individual circumstances.

We can also provide support to the friends and families of those who experience problem gambling.

We can provide you with information, advice and support to assist you through a range of issues including:
- Inability to pay household bills,
- Mortgage stress,
- Child support repayments, or
- Disputes relating to credit and debt.

If gambling is becoming an issue for you or someone you care about you should take a moment to consider:
- Is gambling taking up more time and costing more money than you planned?
- Are current or past gambling behaviours having a direct impact on me now?
- Is gambling causing me stress or impacting others close to me?
- Am I being impacted financially because of someone elses irresponsible gambling?

- Appointments are available at any Nexus location (late appointments offered in Wallan) or in Alexandra from the Alexandra Hospital.

Home Maintenance

Home Maintenance is part of a range of Home & Community Care Services provided by our team to help you, or the person you care for, to remain independent and in your own home for as long as possible.

We can assist you with:

Help around the house – we can support you to maintain a safe household both inside and out. On the outside we offer basic home maintenance including window and gutter cleaning, minor pruning of overhanging tree limbs, home modifications such as grab rails or other equipment to support you.

Personal and Home Care

Personal & Home Care is part of a range of Home & Community Care Services provided by our team to help you, or the person you care for, to remain independent and in your own home for as long as possible.

We can assist you with:

·  Looking and feeling your best – our team will work with you to manage or modify personal tasks such as having a shower or getting dressed to ensure that you remain in control.

·  Healthy eating and food preparation – we can help you to develop and maintain a balanced and healthy diet by assisting you with tasks such as shopping & budgeting, and by introducing you to new meal preparation techniques that you might not have tried before.

• Help around the house – we can support you to maintain a safe household both inside and out. We can assist on the inside by keeping the floors tidy, making beds and completing the laundry.

Respite Care

Nexus Respite Care provides carers with a short break from their caring role to undertake daily activities. Our service is confidential and respectful of your needs, circumstances and culture.

Respite Care is provided in your home or allocated venue and may be for a few hours or a day. Our skilled staff will work with you to understand and meet your individual needs giving your loved ones piece of mind.

Nexus provides Respite Care on a planned regular or emergency basis, including:
- In-home:
a Nexus Support Worker providing support for you in your home while your carer goes out. This is available during the day or overnight.
- Centre-based day:
usually takes place at a day centre or club so that you can do the things you enjoy – this may also include transport for you.
- Overnight or weekend:
takes place outside of regular business hours as negotiated – cost may vary.

Transport Assistance

Transport Assistance is part of a range of Home & Community Care Services provided by our team to help you, or the person you care for, to remain independent and in your own home for as long as possible.

We can assist you with:

·  Getting out and about – we can support you to remain active in your local community by maintaining membership of your preferred interest groups and/or social activities. We can help you to get to the places that you want to go including health-related appointments.
